1 month update
I figured I'd give a quick foodie update at the 1 month mark of our life in the UK. Sadly our surface shipment of stuff (read: baking pans, cooking implements and the food porn books - AKA cookbooks) hasn't arrived yet. (It also contains most of our winter clothes, and Saturday was actually quite chilly...) So I haven't done a ton of baking. I did bring in a batch of chocolate crackle cookies to work and was practically mobbed in the rush of co-workers. I've also discovered lovely Bramley apples - similar to a Granny Smith but firmer and a bit more tart. They make lovely apple crisps.
But ooh, blessed, wonderful golden syrup. Ambrosia of the Gods, methinks. That stuff goes well in/on anything. Apple crisp topping - check. A bit to sweeten up a three-squash and roasted garlic soup - yup. Golden syrup spongecake - ooh, yeah baby. Not as sweet as Karo syrup but definitely tastier.
I went this past weekend to the Borough market again, and stopped by Neil's Yard Dairy to try a bit of cheesy goodness. The cheese called the Stinking Bishop, should you ever encounter, I would highly recommend. It's neither stinky nor um... bishoply, but lovely, creamy and tasty. And yes, Annie, they'd heard about Cowgirl Creamery and said the two ladies from Cowgirl stop in every couple of months. I've devised a wonderful plan where you come and go to school here and pay rent in cheese. Bwahaha! (insert evil grin here)
