CandyFest '05 - let the sugar rush begin!

This past weekend I got together with a gaggle of my fellow cooking companions for some winter baking/candy making adventures, and here are some photos. We definitely spanned one end of the confectionery spectrum to the other, making taffy, some divine baklava, turtles/rocky road, peanut cookies dipped in chocolate, and peanut butter balls. Sara stopped by later to make some of her lovely truffles, too. Although everything turned out so delicious, the baklava was amazing! I took it to work and people are still stopping by days later asking for more. The leftover syrup has a date with some vanilla ice cream, and maybe a touch of bourbon. ;)

For some reason (and I am endeavoring to find out why), the taffy with the light karo syrup never firmed up... the dark syrup worked perfectly, though. I'll post an update if I can find out why. Most sites I've Googled do say they can be used interchangeably. Very mysterious.
